SUCCESS STORIES
ONE
A group of citizens dedicated to Visual Change worked with the City of Flint Attorney’s office to develop a Civil Infraction System that more effectively addressed code enforcement issues. These citizens also developed a brochure to raise awareness about the Civil Infractions System to be mailed to all city of Flint households. The group also successfully lobbied for the demolition of ten of the worst eyesores in the city.
TWO
Another group used their talents to promote a vibrant downtown Flint. They were instrumental in implementing a catalytic “Cool Cities” grant for the development of the First Street Lofts residential living project. This group also helped to generate buzz by spreading the word about the exciting new improvements happening in downtown Flint.
THREE
A group of citizens aiming to improve education played a pivotal role in positioning Genesee County to successfully apply for and receive a Great Start grant. Because of their efforts, more money will be available in our community to improve school readiness, encourage literacy, enhance parent-child interaction, and more.
These accomplishments demonstrate the power of citizen involvement and the positive impact that can occur when ordinary citizens work together for a common cause.
