EDUCATION

We will soon be establishing focus groups for the Great Start Collaborative Strategic Review Process.  We are looking for participants and welcome anyone who may be interested in contributing.

Focus Groups will be formed on the following:

·        Basic Needs
·        Physical Health Care
·        Social Emotional Health Care
·        Parenting Education and Family Support
·        Early Care and Education

The purpose of the Strategic Review Process is to examine the data, reflect upon current community conditions, which are impacting that data, and to establish priorities for interventions that could positively affect the data. Work was started on this last fall, but upcoming meetings will try to establish priorities for the intervention strategies. 

The Great Start Collaborative Steering Committee met recently and brainstormed a starter list for the focus groups.  We welcome additions to the list!  If you are interested in participating or can recommend someone else, please let us know.

VISUAL CHANGE

The main accomplishments of the Visual Change Group are:

• Successfully engaged a variety of community citizens from various sectors including neighborhood organizations, non-profit organizations, city and county municipalities and District Court, in identifying issues, and defining strategies to address blight reduction and code enforcement in county, with particular attention initially to the Flint area.
• Developed a visual map to depict code enforcement processes and identify blocks and barriers to come to a successful resolution of code enforcement issues.
• Committee members provided input to the City Attorney's office in the development of a Civil Infraction System to more effectively address code enforcement issues in Flint.
• Identified via ballots from community residents, 10 most disturbing eyesores within the City of Flint and sought to obtain successful disposition of these blight issues through the code enforcement process.
• Obtained funding to promote awareness throughout the city of the Civil Infractions System
• Developed a brochure to promote the Civil Infractions System to be mailed to all city of Flint Households in early spring of 2007. Download the Visual Change Ordinance Brochure
