The Community Challenge announces the release of a Municipal Civil Infraction/Code Enforcement brochure for City of Flint households
Flint, MI (April 24, 2007) -- A Municipal Civil Infraction/Code Enforcement brochure will be mailed to all occupied households in the City of Flint during the week of April 23.
This community awareness publication is part of a public awareness campaign to highlight the new code enforcement system in place for the City of Flint that addresses blight and code violations within the City of Flint and which will outline the new penalty structure for code violations, and list sample violations.
This public awareness campaign is sponsored by the Community Challenge Visual Change Group and funded by the Community Foundation of Greater Flint – Neighborhoods Small Grants Program Endowment Fund and Keep Genesee County Beautiful.
The main accomplishments of the Visual Change Group to date are:
Successfully engaged a variety of community citizens from various sectors including neighborhood organizations, non-profit organizations, city and county municipalities and District Court, in identifying issues, and defining strategies to address blight reduction and code enforcement in county, with particular attention initially to the Flint area.
Developed a visual map to depict code enforcement processes and identify blocks and barriers to come to a successful resolution of code enforcement issues.
Committee members provided input to the City Attorney's office in the development of a Civil Infraction System to more effectively address code enforcement issues in Flint .
Identified via ballots from community residents, 10 most distrubing eyesores within the City of Flint and sought to obtain successful disposition of these blight issues through the code enforcement process.
Obtained funding to promote awareness throughout the city of the Civil Infractions System
Developed a brochure to promote the Civil Infractions System to be mailed to all city of Flint Households in late winter/early spring of 2007.

The Community Challenge is an initiative dedicated to building a better community where citizens – from youth to older adults - regularly organize to bring about the change they desire; where leaders value and incorporate civic engagement as a regular component to key decision making processes related to public agenda issues; and where area non-profits have the capacity to provide a sustain-able civic engagement infrastructure to support ongoing civic engagement.
The four core partners to the Community Challenge are University Outreach, UM Flint offering Resource Connection, Skill Development, and Civic Engagement Workshops through the University’s Amazing U programs; the Community Foundation of Greater Flint serves as the Host Agency for the Community Challenge, providing overall administrative support of the initiative; the Resource Center offers leadership and civic engagement trainings to youth and adults in the community; and Flint Club offering a single point of contact to connect with community engagement tools and the people that can support your community engagement work.
Funding for the Community Challenge is provided by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, the Ruth Mott Foundation, the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, with additional funding provided by The A.G. Bishop Trust, The Whiting Foundation, and additional CFGF donors.
