DO YOU WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR COMMUNITY?

SOUTHERN GENESEE COUNTY COMMUNITY ACTION PLANNING SESSIONS TO BEGIN

Flint, MI (October 8, 2007) --

Community Challenge will begin facilitating a Community Action Planning Sessions in the Southern Lakes region of Genesee County. This area encompasses Fenton, Lake Fenton, Linden, Argentine Township, Mundy Township, Gaines, and Swartz Creek. 

The purpose of the CAP session is to get the residents engaged in service that benefits their community.   The CAP occurs in 4 sessions or less. The goal is to come out with one project that the participants can implement in their community.  Community Challenge is dedicated to offering assistance and support throughout the course of the project.

1st session- Visioning
October 16, 12:00 noon                             
St. John’s Catholic Church                            
(600 Adelaide St., Fenton, MI)

Fenton High School
(3200 W. Shiawassee Road, Fenton, MI)

Following sessions: 
(All to be held at Mott College’s SLBC campus on Thompson Rd.)
(Same time of Dinner Served at 5:00 pm , Session to begin at 5:30 pm)
 
2nd Session:       October 25, 2007
3rd Session:        November 1, 2007
4th Session:        November 15, 2007

This is a free event and is open to the public. Meals provided by a local vendor. Childcare provided on-site by the Early Childhood Development Center, University of Michigan-Flint (Session 1 only).  Registration is required. The Community Challenge TRANSFORMS the way business is done in Genesee County by demonstrating the POWER OF CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT and by developing new patterns of collaborative leadership. The Community Challenge is an initiative dedicated to building a better community where:

    * Citizens – from youth to older adults - regularly organize to bring about the change they desire.
    * Leaders value and incorporate civic engagement as a regular component to key decision making processes related to public agenda issues.
    * Area non-profits have the capacity to provide a sustainable civic engagement infrastructure to support ongoing civic engagement.
